Research Project Studying the Effects of Using Creative Movement and Dance to Teach Content in the General Education Classroom

I am engaged in a collaborative research project that will address the impact of adding creative movement and dance to the instructional approaches used in diverse general education classrooms at the elementary level. The school involved has identified a school improvement goal of increasing the vocabulary of its students. Outcomes will focus primarily on the aquisition of new vocabulary words, but also may address comprehension, behavior, and assessment in individual classrooms. Teachers participating in this study are clarifying the research focus based upon their particular needs.

IN (Inclusion News)
Steering Committee created in January 2005

The steering committee includes parents, teachers, administators, Augustana College education majors, other professionals and community members, and myself (as chair of the committee and editor of IN). This group determined a need to foster the development of more inclusive support for children with disabilities in the Quad Cities area.

IN is a place to share:
  • teaching and collaboration tips
  • legislative updates
  • helpful area resources
  • questions and answers
  • celebrations of success

Articles addressing these topics can be submitted by any individuals, but are subject to approval of the editor, Stacey Skoning. Submissions must support/reflect the mission of IN and must use respectful, person-first language.
