Dr. Stacey Skoning received her BSEd
and MSEd from Northern Illinois University in Special Education. After teaching special education in the public school system
in Illinois, she received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in Curriculum and Instruction. Teaching
in inclusive classrooms in WI, then provided her with a unique blend of special education and regular education training and
teaching experience. These experiences have allowed her to see the tremendous benefits of inclusive education for all students.
Her work now focuses on developing new teaching methods and strategies that better support all students within the general
education setting, whether they have disabilities or gifts and talents.
Dr. Skoning came to the Special Education Department at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh following four years preparing
future general education teachers about the needs of students with disabilities who may be included in their classrooms. Now,
she prepares future special education teachers to collaborate with their general education counterparts and and effective
strategies to support their students successfully. At the UWO, Dr. Skoning teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in special
education methods, assessment and IEP writing, and teaching students with disabilities in general education settings to special
education majors and students seeking dual certification in general and special education. Additionally, she teaches graduate
level research and writing classes. Her current research focuses on the development of new teaching methods that are effective
in fully inclusive educational settings.
Additionally, Dr. Skoning is a board member of SEEDS in south-central Wisconsin, and engages in consulting work to further
support students with disabilities in general education classrooms.
She also organizes conferences that are supportive of inclusive education.
